US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and outgoing Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto have signed an updated free trade agreement, aimed at replacing NAFTA, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Argentina.


Trump said on Friday that the trade pact was “model agreement that changes the trade landscape forever.”


Trump spent more than a year pushing the leaders of Canada and Mexico into agreeing to a rewrite of North American trade rules.

U.S. President Donald Trump imposed sweeping tariffs in March of 25 per cent on steel imports and 10 per cent on aluminum, but granted temporary exemptions to certain countries. In the case of Canada and Mexico, Trump’s administration tied both countries’ tariff exemptions to the successful renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
