Mourners will gather on a local beach tonight to remember two young sisters — Chloe Berry, 6 and her sister Aubrey Berry, 4 — found slain in a Victoria-area home on Christmas Day.

The District of Oak Bay has organized the candlelight vigil at Willows Beach, saying in a release that the deaths have shaken the community.

The event will be an opportunity “to come together to comfort each other, and to show support for these precious children, their family and their loved ones,” the release says.

The hour-long vigil, which will feature speeches and music, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PT at the Willows Beach Kiwanis Tea House. Participants are asked to wear warm, reflective clothing and bring a candle.

‘Tragic loss’

“We have been shaken as a community,” the release says. “This event is an opportunity to come together in grief and in love to mourn the tragic loss of two of our young citizens.”

Police have said they were called to a residence in Oak Bay, B.C., on Monday evening where the bodies of two children were discovered.

A friend and a family member have identified the girls as Aubrey and her sister Chloe.

Family friend and spokesperson Trisha Lees says the girls were full of energy, smiles and giggles.

Police have said an injured man, whose condition has not been disclosed, was found inside the home and taken to hospital.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit said Wednesday the man was in hospital but was not in police custody.
