At the start of 2018, Syria is on many minds because of the millions either dead, wounded or made refugees.


The outgoing year was a good year for President Bashar al-Assad, as forces recaptured major cities and large areas of rebel-held territory.


The Russian resort of Sochi is due to host a new round of talks in January.


But after so many failed negotiations, what kind of political settlement is possible?

Toronto man denies conspiring with Marvel CEO in alleged hate mail scheme

READ MORE A Toronto man accused of conspiring with the head of Marvel Entertainment in a bizarre hate mail campaign against his wealthy former employer has denied any role in the alleged scheme. David Smith, along with Marvel CEO Isaac (Ike) Perlmutter, is the target of a slander lawsuit launched earlier this year by Canadian businessman Harold Peerenboom. Now Smith — a former employee of Peerenboom’s Toronto-based executive search firm, Mandrake Management — has filed a motion to dismiss the U.S. civil suit.
