Winnipeg pastor charged with sex offences in California pleads not guilty

A Winnipeg priest confronting charges in California for allegedly arranging to accommodate a 15-year-old for sex has pleaded not guilty and was expelled on $25,000 US bail usually days after his arrest, justice papers show.



Nathan George Rieger was arrested on Aug. 10 in Arroyo Grande, about 128 kilometres northwest of Santa Barbara, and charged with arranging to accommodate with a teenager for a passionate act and assembly with a teenager for a passionate act, according to Arroyo Grande Police Department records.



Rieger entered a not guilty counterclaim on Thursday.



The 53-year-old has quiescent from his priest position during Winnipeg Centre Vineyard Church on Main Street where he worked for 19 years.




His depart and rapist charges were announced during a church use on Aug. 19.



Officers initial began questioning Rieger on Aug. 8 as partial of an undercover prick operation.



“There’s a whole network of people that are looking to have sex with minors and we have a investigator business that is designated to have conversations with these people that are seeking to have sex with minors,” pronounced Cmdr. Shawn Cosgrove with a Arroyo Grande Police Department progressing this week.

When reached by phone Thursday, Rieger’s lawyer Charles Magill wouldn’t criticism on what his client’s counterclaim competence be, usually to contend his customer was dissapoint by a charges.



“Of march he’s dissapoint about being indicted of a crime he’s been indicted of,” Magill said.


Magill said there are no terms on Rieger’s bail, usually that he has to make his justice appearances.


The district attorney for a County of San Luis Obispo reliable that Rieger was expelled though conditions from a justice though combined there could be conditions set by a bail bond association that put adult his bail.


Magill wouldn’t contend if Rieger had to pledge his passport.


Rieger’s subsequent justice coming is Aug. 30 in San Luis Obispo.
